Are Headaches interfering with your Daily Activities?

Headaches, even though common for some people, are not normal. Headaches can take different forms such as migraines or tension headaches, and these can greatly impact quality of life.

Headaches can be caused by various reasons, including but not limited to, poor posture, stress, poor sleeping patterns, poor nutrition, and accidents. Here are some tips which can help decrease the severity or frequency of headaches:

  • Proper sleep -Even though it is greatly overlooked, adequate sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle. Getting enough sleep plays an important role in your physical, mental, and emotional health.

  • Fix your sleeping posture – an awkward sleeping position affects the alignment of your spine and can cause stiffness in the morning. Avoid sleeping on your stomach and try to sleep on your back or side.

  • Be mindful of your posture – Maintaining a good posture is very important for spinal health. Be aware of how you are sitting at work and where your computer screen is placed while working. With many people working from home, it is imperative to be mindful of proper posture. Keep your computer screen at eye level, or higher, sit up straight, and don't slouch, try not to squint when working on your laptop or computer.

  • Improve your nutrition – Sugary foods and overloading on carbohydrates can cause inflammation in the body. a diet that includes good healthy fats (avoid seed oils) and protein are beneficial.

  • Improve your driving posture – if you drive regularly, adjust your seat to make sure that you are not straining any part of your body. Move the seat closer to the steering wheel to support the curve of your back.
