Tips for a Stress Free Holiday!
The holiday season is known for its joyous atmosphere, get-togethers, and parties galore. On the flip-side, the season is also known for its busyness, cramped schedules, and unhealthy snacks. Factor in dropping temperatures and decreased daylight, and you may quickly find your wellness routine in decline. Often it’s only after we start to feel stress’ effect that we attempt to correct it. It’s no wonder we feel like we were hit by a truck when the holiday season is over. Here are a few tips to help you prepare now for a more enjoyable holiday season:
Prepare as much as you can ahead of time
You don't want to be sweating and running around at the last minute. This will also allow you to make sure you have all the needed ingredients on hand before the stores get over-crowded.
Make Time for Yourself
Relax and recharge your batteries with a hot bath and a good book! We even suggest adding a few drops of Young Living lavender essential oil to your bath.*
Take a Walk!
Be sure to get your heart rate up a few times per week, whether it be walking, swimming, body squats, jogging, doing an exercise video, or playing around with your kids. With all the events going on, it's also important to stretch and stay hydrated.
Keep a healthy spine!
Carry no more than absolutely necessary when shopping. Be especially mindful of those heavy purses! When shopping, wear flat, comfortable shoes. Don’t lift by bending over. Instead, bend your hips and knees and then squat to pick up the object. Don’t twist your body while lifting. Push, rather than pull, when you must move heavy objects. When wrapping presents, use a big table instead of the floor.
Volunteer
Providing help to friends, acquaintances, and even strangers can mitigate the impact of daily stressors on our emotions and our mental health, according to new research published in Clinical Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science.
A small plug for chiropractic...
It has been proven to reduce stress in the body and joints that otherwise would lead to discomfort and dis-ease. Don’t put off getting treatment this holiday season because you are busy and running around all the time. It's one of the most important times to receive treatment. Preventing the pain is always better than treating it after it has arrived. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to enjoy the time with your family and friends, pain-free?
Enjoy!
Remember why we all come together for the holidays! Remember to enjoy the reason and enjoy your friends
and family. Don't let the idea of how things should be overwhelm you. Always do what you can and let the rest just happen. Be happy... and Happy Holidays!
